An OLD SHEPHERD’S HOUSE, REPAIRED by HAND. A GENEROUS SELF-CATERING RETREAT set QUIETLY apart on THE LAND
Cwrt y bela is a former shepherd’s house, repaired over five years by William and a team of local craftspeople and given a new life. Handmade brick floors floor throughout the property. The windows, doors, bed and some of the additional furniture have been made by William. An Everhot cooker, a wood burner, and a kitchen fitted with everything needed for a long, unhurried stay. Quiet in the way that only old buildings can be.
The Cottage: One bedroom and one bathroom, with a sitting room and wood burner, and a kitchen with an Everhot cooker. Furnished with antique pieces and paintings chosen with care. The land lies on all sides.
The Kitchen: Self-catering, with everything you need for a long, easy stay. We recommend Morris’s Farm Shop in Usk for provisions. On arrival you will find a welcome of homemade sourdough, jam, fresh milk and, when the season allows, apple juice from Allt y bela’s orchard.
A HAVEN of
RESTORATIVE CALM
Allt y bela is a Medieval cruck-framed farmhouse built between 1420 and 1599, with the addition of a Renaissance tower created in the seventeenth century. It was lovingly restored by the Spitalfields Trust before being bought and further repaired and enhance by William Collinson and Arne Maynard in 2006.
